North West Sydney Football to search for a successor to CEO Jeremy Toivonen
North West Sydney Football to search for a successor to CEO Jeremy Toivonen
The Board of Directors of North West Sydney Football Association (NWSF) is now searching for a candidate to succeed Jeremy Toivonen as CEO. Jeremy has advised of his departure in the coming months.
Toivonen’s appointment in August of 2021 came at a time where COVID had disrupted two previous football seasons, and where transformational change was essential following the ground breaking 2019 merger of the previous GHFA and NWSW Football Associations covering the four local government areas of North West Sydney.
Jeremy has stewarded the operational arm of the association through the wettest year on record and has worked with the Board, the Football Management Committee and NWSF staff to implement some of the changes needed as the newly merged Association grows and evolves. As this is an ongoing process, Jeremy’s successor will have further challenges in developing and implementing the strategies and philosophies underpinning NWSF’s continued success.
“I am very fortunate to have worked with some fantastic football people over the past 16 months, and I know I’ll stay in touch with them,” Toivonen stated.
“I would like to thank North West Sydney Football for the opportunity given to me, and I wish the NWSF football community all the best. I look forward to seeing the profile, participation, and pathway grow, particularly with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 events coming to Sydney in July and August 2023.”
Mal Arnold, Chair of the NWSF Board, said, “Jeremy will be hard to replace. We’re sorry to see him go, but we wish him continued success in his new endeavours”.
The Board of Directors will be actively searching for a new CEO to help drive further operational improvements and change as NWSF continues to grow and develop opportunities for all participants of the beautiful game in the North West Sydney area.
North West Sydney Football Welcomes Chris Salmon to the Board
Member clubs voted in Chris Salmon on Monday, the 17th of October to fill the casual vacancy due to Helen Armson’s recent resignation from her position on the NWSF Board.
Chris’s long and extensive experience with grassroots football within the local region started as a manager for his son’s under-7 team in 2005. Since then, Chris has held positions as Mini-Football Coordinator, Director of Coaching, Vice-President, Club President (at Epping Eastwood Football Club), and NWSF Delegate. Chris has coached teams from under-8 to under-21 and All-Age Women, has played for 16 seasons in the Over-35 and Over-45 competitions and has been an active referee for three years. As President of Epping Eastwood FC, he successfully re-introduced girls’ and women’s teams to the club.
Chris is also heavily involved in the NWSF coach education programs, running and assisting with the community-level coaching courses every year.
Chris was instrumental on the GHFA committee that completely revised the competition by-laws in 2014 and was awarded the Association Medal in recognition of that contribution. He has also been a member of the GHFA/NWSF Grading Committee for the past 13 years, contributed to tribunals and, for the past two years, been one of the three members of the Disciplinary Committee.
“After seven years as President of Epping Eastwood FC, I am resigning from that position to devote my full attention to the new role, free from the day-to-day distractions of heading up a football club.” Chris stated.
“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone at NWSF.” he added.
“I hope I can make a difference and help keep our Association at the forefront of community sport.”
