North West Sydney Football to search for a successor to CEO Jeremy Toivonen

North West Sydney Football to search for a successor to CEO Jeremy Toivonen
The Board of Directors of North West Sydney Football Association (NWSF) is now searching for a candidate to succeed Jeremy Toivonen as CEO. Jeremy has advised of his departure in the coming months.
Toivonen’s appointment in August of 2021 came at a time where COVID had disrupted two previous football seasons, and where transformational change was essential following the ground breaking 2019 merger of the previous GHFA and NWSW Football Associations covering the four local government areas of North West Sydney.
Jeremy has stewarded the operational arm of the association through the wettest year on record and has worked with the Board, the Football Management Committee and NWSF staff to implement some of the changes needed as the newly merged Association grows and evolves. As this is an ongoing process, Jeremy’s successor will have further challenges in developing and implementing the strategies and philosophies underpinning NWSF’s continued success.
“I am very fortunate to have worked with some fantastic football people over the past 16 months, and I know I’ll stay in touch with them,” Toivonen stated.
“I would like to thank North West Sydney Football for the opportunity given to me, and I wish the NWSF football community all the best. I look forward to seeing the profile, participation, and pathway grow, particularly with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 events coming to Sydney in July and August 2023.”
Mal Arnold, Chair of the NWSF Board, said, “Jeremy will be hard to replace. We’re sorry to see him go, but we wish him continued success in his new endeavours”.
The Board of Directors will be actively searching for a new CEO to help drive further operational improvements and change as NWSF continues to grow and develop opportunities for all participants of the beautiful game in the North West Sydney area.

North West Sydney Football Welcomes Chris Salmon to the Board

Member clubs voted in Chris Salmon on Monday, the 17th of October to fill the casual vacancy due to Helen Armson’s recent resignation from her position on the NWSF Board.
Chris’s long and extensive experience with grassroots football within the local region started as a manager for his son’s under-7 team in 2005. Since then, Chris has held positions as Mini-Football Coordinator, Director of Coaching, Vice-President, Club President (at Epping Eastwood Football Club), and NWSF Delegate. Chris has coached teams from under-8 to under-21 and All-Age Women, has played for 16 seasons in the Over-35 and Over-45 competitions and has been an active referee for three years. As President of Epping Eastwood FC, he successfully re-introduced girls’ and women’s teams to the club.
Chris is also heavily involved in the NWSF coach education programs, running and assisting with the community-level coaching courses every year.
Chris was instrumental on the GHFA committee that completely revised the competition by-laws in 2014 and was awarded the Association Medal in recognition of that contribution. He has also been a member of the GHFA/NWSF Grading Committee for the past 13 years, contributed to tribunals and, for the past two years, been one of the three members of the Disciplinary Committee.
“After seven years as President of Epping Eastwood FC, I am resigning from that position to devote my full attention to the new role, free from the day-to-day distractions of heading up a football club.” Chris stated.
“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone at NWSF.” he added.
“I hope I can make a difference and help keep our Association at the forefront of community sport.”

Open letter from the Chair of North West Sydney Football, Helen Armson

Dear NWSF Football Family

It is with mixed emotions that I write this to you as part of the family of NWSF.

Over the last couple of years, I have considered pursuing my football passion via corporate employment and this week I accepted a contract position with Football NSW as Legacy Plan Manager which is very exciting for me professionally.

The FNSW Legacy Plan Manager will oversee the delivery of FNSW’s 2023 Women’s World Cup Legacy Program which aims to maximise the benefits of hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This role will manage a suite of programs and services that will grow the female game and provide lasting benefits across all facets of the sport.

As a condition of accepting this role, it is a requirement that I do not hold any other paid or unpaid role with a member club or Association. Sadly, this means I will step down from Chair of the NWSF Board effective Friday 16th September 2022.

The last 7 years as Chair of the Board (GHFA and NWSF) has been a rollercoaster of events and emotions with huge successes, foremost being the merger of GHFA and NWSWF in 2019, along with the implementation of Walk Football, Masters Football, Womens Premier League and strengthening the pathway between our grassroots clubs and representative pathway. Then the downsides of COVID and inclement weather which has played havoc with our ability to schedule full seasons of football.

With an enthusiastic office team, a motivated FMC and supportive Board I believe we have weathered the events admirably and am proud of the position we are in. Of course, there is still more to be done and our future focus continues to be improving facilities, connecting the community through football and the potential for football 365 days a year. I have no doubt the board will continue to progress those initiatives.

I wish to thank the many people that have encouraged and supported me along the journey. It has been incredibly rewarding and I look forward to continuing to encourage all to participate in and enjoy the world game.

See you around the grounds

Helen Armson

“On behalf of the Board and all Association clubs, we would like to thank Helen for her service and leadership these past seven years.” Interim NWSF Chair, Malcolm Arnold stated.

“During this time, we have achieved much and she leaves a substantial legacy.”

“We wish Helen great success in her new role with Football NSW.”

North West Sydney Football reaffirms relationship with Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC

North West Sydney Football (NWSF) has signed the first MOU with both the Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC to reaffirm its commitment to the professional game within the country.
This relationship will aim to provide tangible opportunities for player and coach education, while engaging the community to drive a love of participation in football and converting participants to fans of the professional game.
“The North West geographically sits within both Sydney FC’s and the Wanderer’s catchment areas so it was important to confirm our ties with both these fantastic Clubs.” NWSF Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy Toivonen stated.
“All three entities share the vision of growing our great game, at all levels within our region, and signing this MOU simply confirms this intent.”
“We will endeavour to continue to assist the conversion of our fantastic participation base into fans, while Sydney and the Wanderers will look help us drive participation through our member Clubs.”
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend said: “It’s fantastic we are able to expand our support for football in our heartland with this partnership.”
“We’re expanding our base at Macquarie University very soon with the building of Sky Park, our new Centre of Excellence, and this will enable us to provide even more support to North West Sydney Football who are on our doorstep.”
“We are looking forward to working with the people at NWSF and continuing to work hard to give the very best of our expertise to all of our associations.”
Wanderers General Manager Scott Hudson said that grassroots football is the lifeblood of our game.
“Our relationships with associations like North West Sydney Football are extremely important to us and help facilitate our connection to the grassroots community across Western Sydney,” said Hudson.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with NWS Football in growing the game in Australia.”
