The Foundation of Football is aimed at volunteer parents and coaches working with advanced beginner to competent level players or players aged up to approximately fifteen (15) years old. This course is a prerequisite for the Football Australia/AFC C Diploma.
NWSF is proud to deliver over ten Foundations of Football courses to service our local clubs and develop our coaches. These courses are delivered by NWSF and NWS Spirit FC coaching staff. Courses are held over 1 days, 2 nights or 3 nights either at Christie Park or on-site at our local clubs training venues.
This course primarily targets coaches of children aged 5 to 11 years, however, it is also tailored to beginners and novices, making it suitable for adult teams with limited experience.
The Foundation of Football is a standalone course and not merely a module. The central focus of the course is to empower coaches to establish a safe and enjoyable environment for young players. It offers guidance on conducting engaging training sessions and provides pre-designed training plans for an entire season, alleviating coaches from the task of creating them themselves.
Coaches will participate in practical sessions covering the basics of techniques as well as learning about basic playing principles of the game. The course is mostly practical and not graded, allowing the student to participate in the training sessions if they so choose. The course also promotes participating in group discussions with the goal of exchanging experiences.
Please note:
- There are two online modules to complete prior to the course starting on the Role of a Coach, and Game Day Environments. Please ensure these two modules are completed before the course starts.
- Candidates must attend all nights of a given course to be eligible to pass the course.
CPD
Coaches who have completed a Foundations of Football must complete continual professional development (CPD) in order to maintain their qualification. This CPD requirement is per all other coaching course CPD requirements, wherein coaches are required to attain 15 CPD hours over 3 years. Please note progression to the the next level of coaching qualification (i.e. a C Diploma) supersedes CPD requirements.
Further information about CPD can be found on Football Australia’s website.
